You’ve never been big on subtlety.
You are big and bold and march to the beat of your own drum.
Due dates? Predictable nap times? Not your thing.
You prefer to make a statement in that nap-protesting, imakemyownrules, two-day labor kind of way.
You love to read and play “LETTERS?!” and would watch Bubble Guppies every hour of every day if we let you.
You have a sixth sense for the location of parks and you love to slide and swing and slide again. You are a risk-taking daredevil of a boy so this momma is always sure to stay two steps behind (just in case).
You are polite and kind and gentle when it’s right to be. You give hugs and “chisses” and high-fives. You say “pease?” and “thank you!” and you “keen up, keen up” whenever we ask you to help. I hope that you continue to learn the necessity of being respectful, responsible, and compassionate.
You love to color everywhere– in coloring books, in the bathtub, on the sidewalk. You know purple and blue and sometimes green, yellow, and red. Orange is a funny word.. you’ll figure it out, kid.
I love the way you count (“two, two, THREE!”) and sing along with Frozen. I love the way you marvel at pictures and videos of Baby You on my phone. I love the way you make your
action figures “guys” talk to each other and the way you light up and cheer when you’re done reading or dancing or playing “letters.”
I love all of your orneriness in all of your strong-willed glory because you are my tenacious, terrific, Terrible Two.
My sweet boy–
You are two.
You are thriving. You are independent and determined and strong.
You are a blessing, and you are only beginning.
Originally drafted June 4, actually completed after crawling out from under end-of-school-year rubble mid-July. And already, you’ve grown so much ❤
